Ah, yes...Judsons!
For MGA's the Judson went for just
$225 back then. I remember these
advertised in Road and Track
when I used to drool over having one for
my MGA.
Still plenty of Spridget ones around @
US$1,000 available from George Folchi
in New Milford, CT.
Dean Hedin has one on his
Bugeye and is experimenting with water
injection/delivery for cooling along with
different types of vanes for more efficient
operation on today's readily available
lower octane unleaded premiums.
Had one temporarily on my stock '67
Spridget. Only 4psi boost curve with
standard pulley set-up. Not really suitable
for large bore "A" series due to heat and
blower overdrive issues. 4psi curve gives
mostly heat and no increase in power
under 3k and damn little above.
However, we did get one to run temporarily overdriven which
could produce the originally
intended 6psi boost curve to the larger
1275 using CAM2 leaded racing gas.
Went like a raped ape utilizing the
Cooper S (#40819) advance curve
"capped off" @ 26 degrees total advance
along with BPR "8"' plugs. Upgraded half-
shafts would definitely have been in
the cards in future!! Very, very "quick".
The larger 1275 needs a higher capacity
Judson of the MGA size intended for
the 1500 motor. Unfortunately, George
reports these are very, very scarce. Too
baaaad!!
