I have the engine and tranny out of the Datsun 210 and am still evaluating
the engine for transplant into the '79 midget, along with the 5 speed tranny. I
am looking at some new valves on ebay, and the intake valves are listed as
"oversize". In terms of measurement, the heads on the oversize valves is in
the
neighborhood of 2 mm larger than the stock valves. I have never fit oversize
valves into an engine before. Is this a preferred thing to do? And if I
bought these, what else would have to be done? New oversize seats installed by
the machine shop?
The aluminum head looks good, save for a couple of deep scratches on the
valve cover gasket surface, probably fixable with JB Weld. Current valves may
be
regrindable after cleaning the heavy crud off them. The cylinders are all
full of black, like this engine was burning oil at a fair rate. Of course
rings
and bearings are on my list, as well as a cleaning and honing at the machine
shop.
