Lovely story, Daniel, but, alas, untrue. (Never believe anything that insists repeatedly that it is true.). There is a lovely website at www.snopes.com that bears looking into anytime that you feel inclined to pass on one of these bits of rubbish. In fact, if you go to http://www.snopes.com/business/consumer/cookie.asp you can see this particular tale de-bunked for yourself. You can also go to http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/service/nmAbout.jhtml#cookie and see what Nieman-Marcus says about it. You owe it to all of your friends to do a little research before passing on such tripe.
