Bill....
Very simply put, a vibration damper is
a crank saver.....there are (as a recall)
two ranges where the crank "resonates"
to it's detriment. The damper is included
in dynamic balancing of the rotating
assembly.
A good stock replacement item with new
rubber is all that is really needed for a mildly tuned street motor.
www.aptfast.com has a nice lighter SS one, already degree marked for cam
timing, etc. for $199.00. You'll be using
this one for about forever so it's basically
a one-time expense thing.
Another item which dampens vibrations
as well is a belt cam drive. Also makes for
much more quiet running but not necessary by any means...just nice to
have! :)
