David....
I have mounted my oil cooler in front
of the radiator in my bugeye and the
cooling system does not seem to care...
which surprises me. But, my mechanic
said it wouldn't matter to the cooling
system because of a boundary layer
effect between the oil cooler and the
radiator. I do not pretend to understand
this except to say the air and heat transfer
by air obviously don't work as we expect
them to.
If your car is not using a heater, a "better"
place to mount it would be vertically just
behind the hole wherein the heater duct
hose would normally go. I know we have
a lister who races and mounts it in this
location.
While my location seems to work OK,
I am thinking of lowering the oil cooler
further down and mounting it between the
frame rails beneath and in front of the
radiator just behind the bonnet, adding
a little fiberboard scoop below the bottom
of the bonnet to guide incoming air
"up and in". Working on it...will talk to
me mechanic tomorrow AM and look
further in to this.
