These cars were built when Saab was very much an enthusiasts' car. Before
Saab went all "executive" with their modern saloons.
The tale was that they were built that shape so that when they rolled they
would roll right over and back onto their wheels without doing any damage.
A friend used to own a Saab dealership in NE England told me this tale. He
said that almost all of their 3cyl, 2 stroke, freewheel hub cars went to
enthusiasts and ended up in one sort of motorsport or another. Mostly
rallying I think.
