Thanks for the response. I've never been farther west than Nebraska, but I
intensely dislike the idea of droning on for hours and hours across flat,
featureless terrain; hence my plan to take the more northerly route. Hadn't
considered mountain passes to be a problem. In fact, I hadn't considered
mountain passes. Period. Perhaps I should just leave the 3:9 in. Should
I be concerned about mountain passes, on the northern route? I'd planned to
take a more scenic, mostly non-Interstate route on the out-bound trip, but
will be forced to stick to Interstates for a quick return trip.
I sure do hope I'll have time for a visit while I'm there. The main reason
for the trip is to attend a niece's wedding. However, my father-in-law has
rented a large beach house for a couple of weeks, with the idea of hosting a
family get-together (my wife comes from a family of five girls). With that
many siblings and their offspring under the same roof, my father-in-law,
brothers-in-law and I will need occasional mental health breaks, complete
with cool, adult, malt beverages ;)
I'm looking forward to the trip, very much.
Bud
