Rick Moses, coordinator of the every five years Sprite anniversary
gatherings proposed a question.........
Why not have, "the list," any individuals, sports car garages and those
interested, restore a Bugeye Sprite? When it is completed we can sell
raffle tickets for this car and give it away the last day of the 50th
anniversary of the Austin-Healey Sprite gathering in May of 2008. The
revenues from the raffle tickets will help to offset the registration
costs of the 50th party for our special guests and EVERYBODY.
Rick's initial idea....Have a Bugeye passed around to whomever wants to
help restore it. Since the 50 anniversary is usually a "golden"
anniversary lets paint it gold, or gold with black accents or black
with gold stripes and accents. Anything gold may be possible.....
maybe even a real gold plated Sprite arrow on the boot!
Sell chances on the Sprite for $X per ticket.
Someone will win the car at
the last day of the 50th anniversary meet.
We will have to have some sort of basic rules like the winner has to pay
for transfer of title, tax and tags. AND, of course, the winner HAS to
be present to win. (sort of like how the Carlisle people give-away one
of their cars.) Rick, Cindy, and family and Frank will not be eligible
to win this special car BUT YOU ALL CAN WIN IT.
Each participant in the "AH SPRITE 50th" Restoration Project must donate
their time and ability. Rick will donate a sound bugeye tub, bonnet
and clear title. Rick will also loan his Sprite trailer to move the car
about the country. The other participants must choose a particular area
of interest, scrounge the bits they need, and do their part ALL IN 60
DAYS. They must also make all arrangements to trailer the Sprite from
their workshop to the next workshop where the next person does his part
and moves the car along the "assembly line." With any luck, the parts
needed can obtained new from donation of parts by the companies that
provide us with our parts. This will also most likely give us
advertising of our project. All those that participate will have their
name engraved and what they did on a special "golden" plaque that will
be permanently attached to this special car. Everybody is to take as
many photographs of their portion of the restoration and make a
duplicate set to show at the AH SPRITE 50th to brag about.
We want as many cooks in this stew as
possible so everybody can have a piece of this project.
The car must end up in Toms River, NJ by January 2008, 5 months before
this big, LAST meet so Frank and his crew has it for a any last minute
details and a 2 month shakedown.
This can be a 2 part project. Body and mechanicals. Someone can be
doing body and paint while some one else can do engine and trans.
The body and mechanicals portion might work something like this:
1st Body Strip Down & Assessment
2nd Welding/Body work
3rd Paint
4th Suspension ... making it roll again
5th Brakes ... making it stop
6th Electric system
etc....

The cost of putting on this large AH SPRITE 50th Anniversary Meet is
going to be substantial. Everything costs big bucks these days. We want
to make this Meet financially ACCESSABLE to EVERYBODY that cares to join
us. If we advertise this Golden Sprite and make enough from the raffel
maybe we can have a NO or very LOW COST registration fee AND put the
Meet on with all the frills for everybody.
If we get this *idea* rolling soon, we have almost 5 years to make a
stunning golden anniversary Sprite. Just think YOU might even win it!!
