You could have just used your new timing light.  Hook it to the #4 wire,
and proceeed as normal.  This assumes you are talking about your basic
4 cylinder, Otto cycle, internal combustion motor.  Unless your crank is
WAY twisted, the TDC mark will be in the same place relative to the pointer
when #1 is firing or #4 is firing.
