I have a 1380 that I have used in all sorts of competition. I have not
had any problems associated with blowby, block flex and lost power.
I exclusively use the Metro turbo gasket and have not had head gasket
problems with that motor.
Having said that, the local experience is that not all 1275 block castings
are suitable for big bore, and the hot local engine builder sonic tests
a block before marking it suitable for big bore or not.
I have +0.020", +0.040", and 73.5mm competition engines. The 1380 has
terrific grunt out of corers -- a much better torque curve (i.e. higher
and flat!).
Unless you are sure the block is suitable, then you should probably
not take the risk and just stick with a +0.040" motor. Otherwise you
are taking a bit of a gamble...
