Josh, I have used rubberized undercoat in spray cans with great success. 
If applied to a good clean solid surface it lasts a long time. Just like 
painting the top of the car, good preparation is 99.9% of the job. My 
old cars that don't go int he rain much have had it in place for 20 
years or so and still look good underneath.
