No argument intended here, at all....OK?

This must be understood...ok? OK!!

Most street engines are not 100%. A
compression/leak down check proves the
point "generally" speaking.

This is what makes the variable choke or
SU such a great all around carb. It will
only supply the engine with what it demands, no matter the "shape" of
the
engine. If your compression should be
150+ across the board and it's 150, 90,
100, and 120 the SU equipped engine will
keep chuggin' along, happy as a clam.

It may not go like hell, and may use a little
more fuel "than it should" but it'll run
smoothly and happily.

A DCOE or Dellorto "correctly" set up for
the engine (dyno or A/F ratio meter, EGT,
etc., whatever) when it was 100% or new
will show the engine's deterioration in
time/miles. However, it's not the carb. ....
it's the engine. It may develop roughness
or an off-idle "bog", etc.

A Dellorto is easier to live with on the road due to a diaphragm
actuated accelerator pump circuit, which is more
"flexible" or "foregiving" of minor "mis-
tuning" as in jetting than the strictly
mechanical apparatus of the DCOE.....
this is why David likes the Dellorto for
the road, where a lot of acceleration "off
idle" is the name of the game, wherein this is not the case on the
track....different
"priorities". How do I know this? 'Cause I
asked him point blank, mano y mano! :)

However, IMHO, nothing beats the DCOE
providing the application is "correctly"
jetted and "tuned" for the engine....big
proviso here....including....(flame suit
donned) low and mid-range torque!!

But if the DCOE equipped application as
mentioned above goes "off tune", then the SU will be better in this
respect (or it damn well should be, by design!)

(Ducking behind chairs, couches, sofas,
cat, whatever!:)
