I, on the other hand, have a Yahoo address which I stopped using when they
decided to charge for accessing it via pop3. It still exists, it never did
get much use, I check it occasionally (when I remember what my username and
password were), the only email that ever shows up there is from Yahoo. No, I
never set up any of the blocking features for it. I just don't like
web-access email very much. In other words, I agree with Nory that someone
is selling email addresses on some of these hosts.
I, too, subscribed to the theory that one should not attempt to unsubscribe
from spam because it validated your address. However, when the volume became
excessive, I did start unsubscribing. There are some that do not work, there
are some that ignore it, there are some that probably take you off of their
email list and put you on their for sale-validated list. I will say that the
volume of junk mail has decreased significantly after doing this. It is
something that I will do every six months or so.
