Just finished installing electronic ignition in the sprite. Used a
free dizzy and electrics from a Metro (A+ Engine) which involved a
bit of minor engineering to convert the dizzy drive shaft and clamping
set up. All back together now and seems to be running sweetly enough,
but I need to go for a blast to check it out!
First obvious thing was timing it with the strobe. The mark on the
crank pulley now shows up as a nice steady, narrow white line. With
the old dizzy the line appeared about 1/2" wide and lept all over the
place making strobe timing very dificult! So will have to see if that
translates into better running.
Downside is that I am used to setting the static timing with the radio
but that dosn't seem to work with the electronic module. As a result
it took a lot of trial and error to get it near enough to run so now I
have a flat battery. On charge ready for a test drive thisafternoon,
before the sun goes down. Hope its OK, I need it for work tomorrow!!
