Vizard in his "bible" for tuning the A-series engine includes a section
for calculating CR based on available octane gasoline, cam duration,
etc. For 93 octane gas and a hi-po street engine my recollection is the
CR was about 9.2-9.8 (depending on specific set-up).  
David Anton in the APT web-site recommends no higher than 9.5-1 CR for
street car on pump gas.
