Yes, it is too bad that some people and some manufacturers blatantly waste
natural resources. Back in the 70's, when OPEC was first beginning to act
out, I commented that if everybody drove cars like mine, we could all do 65,
instead of the 55 that Federal law required the states to enforce. Since
that time, I have gotten accustomed to having one large car (currently a Jeep
Grand Cherokee) which holds enough cargo and people that I can go to the
store once a week and get it all home in one trip. It also does duty as a
Hauler of stuff from Home Depot, a puller for my Sprite Trailer, and a
Utility 4 wheel drive for desert running. At 15 mpg it is only about half as
economical as my other cars, but since it isn't nearly as much fun it gets
used less often.
My big complaint against the subject piece was that it is pure hate for a
single type of vehicle, regardless of usage, with no real suggestions as to
how to make them easier to do without and without admitting that sometimes an
SUV is exactly what is called for. It consists entirely of what can be done
to make life miserable for SUV drivers--that is just plain predjudicial and
stupid.
