Hello spridgets,
i remember now.. i was going to swap the wires ON the gauge,
but since there were two on one terminal and one on the other,
i NEVER did. ... BUT.. i get the same reading (full) on the
gauge whether or NOT the green/black wire (that comes from the
sending unit) is attatched to the gauge.
looking at the diagram of the sending unit, it looks to be a
variable resistor to ground, when empty, the greatest resitance
is in the circuit. sooo either it is not grounded, (i see
ground AT the tank to which a lug is attatched but NOT a
wire!!!?? (just the stub of one sticking out the lug) OR the
unit is stuck in the up position. .. guess i'll be dropping the
tank this winter. but not until the rainy season!
i have about 800 miles on the "new" engine. runs like a champ.
changed the break in oil after about 500 miles. say, if and i
say if, the engine is pinging on high test gas, does that mean
i should advance or retard the timing? i used the little wheel
and advanced about 20 clicks and it seemed to help.. still have
black smoke coming out the exhaust. running too rich? .. also,
it idles at about 1500 instead of 1000. adjust the high idle on
the carbs with the little screws underneath the carbs or the
stops with the idle adjust screws on the uppper side?
took a day off friday and had a GREAT drive down to long beach
(washington) sun shining, birds singing, hair blowing in the
breeze. LIFE IS GOOD!
