Grasshopper contemplates hubs that move in unintended direction,
and seeks enlightenment from group.

One must lament that grasshopper hasn't yet discovered that 
enlightenment must come from self contemplation, not from asking
the master(s)!!! :-)

It sounds like you have what is known, in technical terms, as a
knackered hub. You have a couple of things to try in order

1) Loctite "Retaining Compound" (go straight to "high strength")
   and after cleaning thoroughly with solvent, apply the compound
   to the outer bearing surface/bearing seat of hub 

2) crosshatch the bearing seat to give the bearing some surface
   to "bite", also apply retaining compound

3) find better hubs

I've progressed from 1) to 3) on one of my cars, (i.e. 1) and 2) 
were ultimately unsuccessful for me), but you might be luckier...
