Inboard.
The top spring has a square *notch* so to speak, to it. This notch goes
upwards to clear the hub.
It is best to hook the top spring on the shoes first, stretch them over
the hub, then install the bottom spring. Sometimes, if your lucky, you
can install both springs (inboard) and stretch the whole mess over the
hub. It's not too hard to get the lower spring on after the shoes are
inplace. Watch that notch in the top, they are directional.
