How about choke sticking on causing sooted up plugs and subsequent misfire
etc. Plugs will not soot up in seconds, and electrical hiccups tend to cause
sudden death.
As has been said, blanking off the exhaust will kill the engine (shows you
have a good, tight exhaust system as well) but just gentle hand pressure
should not do it, there should be some pressure there. (Unless you have
gorilla hands :-) )
