The Project: fix leaking nearside rear hub
The Problem: The halfshaft will slide into the axle and after the
usual fiddling will engage the splines in the differential. With
everything lined up, the halfshaft slides home with the usual "thunk"
of solid contact.
However, the flange is stopping anywhere between 1/18" from the face of
the hub down to >almost< contacting the gasket. Moderate
applicatations of force make no difference.

Diagnosis: Either the hub is slightly bent, or the receptacle for the
bearings is slightly off round. We solved our similar problem by replacing
the hub with a new one from Austin Healey Spares. (We had two on wire
wheels--this bugeye ain't stock.) Hope this Helps. (Bob helped me with the
e-mail.)
