Flexalite and some of the other mfgs make thermal switches for the fans.
There are some that fit inside the upper hose, by fitting a slotted
rubber sleeve under the hose and then fitting the copper wire through
it. THere are others that the sensor bulb is slid between the radiator
fins. You cah find these through street rod suppliers or Summit or Jegs
dot com. The Flexalite is the kind that goes in the upper hose and has a
knob so you can adjust the on off settings to suit your car. About $25.
You can also look at the autoparts for the fan sensor switch from the
radiator of a Dodge Omni or probaably most any mopar family vehicle.
They are threaded to fit into a bung taht's soldered into the radiator
tank. Your choice hoe to adapt that. I soldered a pc of tubing and a
threadd fitting from Home Depot and cut my upper hose and spliced it in
on a jeep I had once, worked fine.
