The best head gaskets are the turbo type with a fire ring in the top ridge. Buy
it when rebuilding and have the machine shop prep the block. Works up to 14 to
1 compression. Jon Stamps Racing carries them.
The second choice is a solid copper gasket (typically custom made- at about
$100). Will compensate for some surface irregularities. Good for up to 12 to 1
compression and great for the street. Best to heat the gasket with a torch and
allow to cool (softens). I may have a couple in the shop if anyone needs them.
I have also had good look O-ringing the block- when the turbo gaskets are not
available.
