The center main does not get enough oil. It's not a matter of pressure. Keep
in mind that this is a free reving 3 main engine. the more oil it gets on
the moving bits, the better it is. My 77 stays around 40 lbs oil pressure at
hot idle (60 lbs. at speed) with the stock oil pump and opened center
gallery.

P.S. If you would like more info, give Ted Schumacher (TS Imported
Automotive) a call. I had Ted rebuild my engine. Very knowledgable person
and always willing to share the info.

Dan:

Strictly in the interests of education and
without intending to question or argue to
any extent.....is the center main on a 1500
not getting enough oil or is it not getting
enough "pressure"?

How can one tell whether it is "one way"
or the "other"? For, in view of this engine's
alleged reputation for coming apart in the
area of the bottom end, I cannot help but
wonder (see my just prior post on 1500
"normal" running oil pressures).
