I identified the problem.  I charged the battery and it was holding
about 12.7 volts.  Put it back in the car and cranked the engine while
looking a the battery voltage.  Voltage dropped to about 10 volts but
the car cranked real slow.  I did this several times (5 or 6) and the
car cranked slower and slower.  When I stopped cranking the voltage
would go back to 12.7 volts.  At that point I notice the smoke
coming out of my starter!  Problem found.  Now if I can get another
one before the weekend I will be a happy camper.
