Glass bonnet owners
I recently acquired a Speedwell nose. It has seem better days but since
I have always wanted one, it's being re-glassed.
>From the remains of the parts that came with it, I need help in
determining how/where the pivot goes on the inside of the nose.
I have the bracket that bolts to the frame where the bumper should bolt.
But it's just a metal rod with 2 "D" shapped rubber blocks that pivot on
the rod.
However it was attached to the fiberglass rusted or was torn out.
All I have is some rust flakes.
I can make the tabs for the pivot blocks but do they just bolt to the
fiberglass or are the fiberglassed into the bonnet?
Also I think there was a rubber strap to hold the nose up when open, any
opinions on a gas strut?
All the stress cracks have been reinforced from the under side.
Tomorrow we drape a full sheet of glass over the entire outside.
This will fix all those cracks and give it a bit more strength.
It won't be as light but I am using it on a street car so durability
over lightweight is the key.
