Dave,

The flat top item is a PCV valve. You should continue to use it. You can
cap the  45 degree pipes on the carbs and the vacuum hose does attach to a
small fitting on either the front or read carb body. Some were on the fron,
some rear, but I don't remember when it was changesd. Cap the carb vents
with some rubber caps.
