My set of dual HS4's arrived yesterday from Quantum Mechanics. I got a chance
to take a look at them last night.
The tags list them as FZX 1122, which Burlen lists as fitting the Midget ('78
on), Spitfire, and Dolomite ('77-'79). So far so good. The set was a little
oily on the outside, but overall looked decent - "good used condition" was
appropriate. Throttle shafts moved freely, the choke linkage looked ok. The
only thing that wasn't quite right was the front poston lifter (very tiny
spring-loaded pin) was stuck, and I think stuck on. The rear one moved fine,
which is what made me check the front one.
One other thing I have a question on, based on comparing the set with the
drawings in Bentley. I found the vent pipes to the manifold (large, had plastic
restrictor caps on them), but on the float bowls, the rear carb had 3 pipes,
the front 2. Bentley shows 2 and 1, respectively. Anyone know what the 3rd pipe
is for? A charcoal canister vent? (SWAG)
I plan on giving them an overhaul anyway, just to chaeck the condition of the
internals, check the throttle shafts more closely (with a micrometer/vernier
caliper), and just generally clean them up. I've already tore apart and rebuilt
the ZS that's on the car, so this shouldn't be too much different.
I'll keep ya posted.
