Tyson,
I agree with Trevor about it taking a lot of rust on the drive shaft to
cause vibration, but if those universals were dry (no grease) which is what
I am suspecting. Especially since you say you have not had it long and are
assuming the universals are original. If that is so, the grease that was in
them is long long long gone or hard as a rock. The bang or big noise you
heard could have been the llittle needles crushing.
I would suggest you first eliminate the driveshaft universals. They are not
that expensive and a little work. If the noise was a big as you say, I
would also very carefully check the condition of the drive shaft flange eyes
(look for cracks). A lot of pressure could have built up when driveshaft
was trying to rotate at an angle and the universal was frozen.
go ahead and send me the wav file. Don't really know what I will be able to
tell from it.
