I dropped by my buddy's house today, the guy that originally sold me my
Bugeye project car in 1993. We have been good friends ever since. He
has supplied me with original Bugeye parts for my restoration at little
to no cost since I bought the car from him. A great guy. Every time I
go over to his house it is a dreamland for people that are into 50's and
60's English, Italian and German sports cars. Every few weeks there are
several new project or complete race or sports cars to look at. I have
learned a tremendous amount about Morettis, Alfas, Maseratis, Austin
Healeys, MGAs, BMWs, Porsches and all kinds of cars I've never heard of
before. It's a veritable "Field of Dreams". I went over there today
because he was pulling the engine and trans from a 66 MG midget. This
is the same Midget I am buying from him for $250.00 because I want the
wire wheel setup to try on my Bugeye. This car is a nice rust free tub
and the doors close perfectly, windows roll up and down, etc. I watched
him pull the motor and tranny, using his back hoe for a cherry picker in
under 30 minutes. He cut cables and hoses and used an air ratchet to
loosen everything and yanked. I go over there tomorrow to collect the
rest of the car to bring home to disassemble at my leisure. He said you
can owe me the money, no problem. What a guy.
After a few beers when we were finished with the engine/trans
removal, he asked me if I would like to go with him on Feb 3 to Jay
Leno's place to deliver a racing big Austin Healey motor. What do you
think I said? As far as work is concerned, I am deathly ill that day
and cannot come to work! I'll take pictures and post them for the
list. I have included a link below to some pictures I took at his house
the last time I was there. These pics were taken for Gerard when I was
trying to explain what it is like to go to this guy's back yard.
Mike MacLean-60 Sprite maybe with wire wheels next year.
