How do you buy a computer with less bells and whistles?
Unfortunately, unless you have either an Anti-Virus program, or the latest
patch for Outlook Express, you can get the latest virus without
intentionally opening the attachment. It will open by itself just by
previewing the message.
As for posting pics on the internet, it depends on a lot of things. If you
have no website or familiarity with HTML and FTP, probably the easiest way
is to open an account with someone like Ofoto www.ofoto.com. There is no
charge to open an account, post pictures, or let other people see them. They
have a little application you can use to easily collect, enhance and upload
pictures to your account. You can keep various collections in separate
albums if you like. Their main business is printing pictures, not hosting
them for viewing, so they don't necessarily display them at full size (I
think they show them at a max of about 450 x 300). I'm sure there are other
sites more conducive to picture sharing, but can't name one off hand.
If your ISP/email account includes space for a website you can post them
there, but that's beyond the scope of this forum. There are plenty of sites
with lots of info about how to do that. I personally recommend M$ Front
Page, especially if your web server has the ability to use Front Page Server
Extensions. This allows you to work on the site "live". However, you can do
everything you want for free if you learn HTML. You can literally use
Notepad to write the HTML and then you just need to FTP the files to the
webserver.
