My reassembly of the 1275 has ground to a halt on the question of camshaft
endplay.
I got a ton of it.
Original block, end plate, front plate and cam thrust plate.
New cam bearings, cam and oil pump.
Peter C. my parts guy, suggested that it was the flange at the end of cam, he
didn't have one, so I ordered one from Moss, thinking my flange had rolled
behind something on the garage floor. But what I got the spline/star drive,
which I had put on the new pump.
There was not a lot of wear on this engine so I am kind of stumped still
think I am missing something. The engine and I are not spending the week
together, so I can't check parts at the moment. So here are some questions:
Does the star drive wear down?
Is the cam thrush plate, which bolts on to the front plate, supposed to have
a collar which extends back into the front plate? The one I have is flat.
Or put another way, is the face of the journal on the cam supposed to be
flush with the engine block or front plate?
