Hello, Chris-
165-170 is an excellent running temperature for a Series A engine,
but 180 may be better for producing
heat from your heater keeping at least,
your feet warm in top down cruising,
or you in your entirety nice and cozy
top up and side curtains in place.
Think Vizard recommends 165-170 for
"power" and up to 200 for "economy"
engines. So whatever you need for decent
heat in the cockpite between the foregoing
seems to be the way to go.
And if you've put an oil cooler on your
little jewel, an "oilstadt" in the line will
keep the oil warm enough in 32F ambient
temps or thereabouts, to do it's job
properly.
I drive my Bugeye (1293 now, used to be
a 1098) year 'round here in the Northeast
(except snow/freezing precip. or "salty"
road conditions) and use a 68C "stadt"
in "summer" (or a "blanking sleeve" with
the Judson blower in July/August weather,
usually) and a 77C in Dec/Jan/Feb. for
adequate cockpite heat.
Happy motoring; spring/fall weather is
great in a LBC roadster/convertible, is
it not?!! Enjoy immensely!
