There is a full tech tip on the Mitsubitchi alt conversion on PDLJMPR.
Basically any 1 wire alternator will work, GM. Mitsu, Honduh, etc
As long as the mounting ears are 180* apart. ie, it looks the same as the
generator mounting ears or Lucas alt mounting ears.
Most modern alts are omni-directional so spinning it either way doesn't
matter. Also most now days have the wide funky looking fan belt, you can buy a
V belt pulley for them at an auto store or hardware store.
\
The GM alt is 1/2 the size of the A series engine, it just looks way too big
under the bonnet. Honda and Subaru have nice tiny alternators that look like
they "belong" with an A series engine. I just slap a Lucas sticker on em and
everybody still knows the difference.
On a one wire alt, the large wire goes dirrectly to the battery (via the
solenoid) one of the smaller wires (field from generator or small brown from
Lucas alt) works the ignition light on the dash. Most Lucas alts had 3 wires,
1 large (to battery) 2 small, one is a tickler or something like that. Newer
alts aren't ticklish.
