Ok guys, help needed.

1974 Midget w/1098 smoker motor.
It was rebuilt by the PO probably in the late 70s.
It came in a 66 Sprite I bought years ago.
No miles on engine to speak of, long time running, rings seated, no
smoke on accelleration.

It does smoke when you fire it up or let it idle.
Valve seals. Right?
So I popped the head just now, crusty seals sort of cracked and fell off
when I pulled the valve springs.
I installed the later 1275 seals with the little spring and collar.
No step on the guide, so what keeps the seal in place?
I don't want to use a tooth pick to push em down after each revolution.
Originals were little O rings, I have them but they just ride the high
end of the valve stem, how would they "seal"?
I am hoping the inner spring keeps the umbrella seals down where they
are needed.
Or should I just make this 1098 an anchor and drop a 1275 in it?
I want to sell this car with all the crap I'll never use like wire
wheels, 1098, rediculous looking side marker lights, big rubber blocks
on the thin metal bumpers, and a padded dash board.
The 1098 is the only thing that does not belong in this Midget. The
engine interals look brand new, so does the head. I think it is just age
that did in the rubber seals.

In short, do 1275 seals work on a 1098?
How do 1098 O rings seal the valves since they ride on the stem?
If I find a 1275, anybody want to get this hunk of junk out of my garage
before I see how well it floats?
