Many touched on the piston size, it is 73.5mm. The overbore that accepts
them is 110 thousandths overbore. Not .040, not .060 but .110! That's a lot
of metal to take out, and if you've ever actually seen how little metal is
left, you wouldn't even think about it. The factory manual says maximum
over bore was .040. After that they recommended sleaving the bore. The
next engine I do will be .060 over. John Carey seems happy about his
engine, but ask him how many crank case breather modifications he had to do
to handle all the blow by created by flexing cylinder walls... I think I
counted four breathers the last time I looked under his hood. The 1380 I
had lasted only about 10,000 miles before cylinder flex ate up the pistons.
Ulix built one, and it had piston slap from day one. I just don't think
that last 3-5 hp. is worth it.
