Thanks to all of you for responses so far.
As I said, this system dosn't seem to have any PCV as such fitted.
ie. I mean that there is no discernable valve system.
I have just tried the obvious- which of course hadn't occured to me
before! - of disconnecting the crankcase vent hose from the "Y" branch
at the carbs. Reconnected the Y branch ends together and blocked the
open end of the vent hose. Dosn't seem to make much difference - it
still smokes!
