caliper info

Yesterday while rebuilding the front calipers on my 65 Midget I noticed on 
the outer rim of the piston (the area that contacts the back of the brake 
pad) a small offset on the this edge.  Unfortunately I noticed it after all 
the pistons had been removed from the calipers, so my question is where 
should this offset be located?
