whatcha got is mold / mildew growing in your airconditioning evaporator box
inside the car. a/c not only cools off the occupant of the vehicle but also
cleans the air to a degree. as air passes through the evaporator , the
condensed moisture from the air captures up dust, pollen and to a degree
even smoke. after the car is shut off this stuff hangs out in a damp dark
box that just seems right to germinate mold. the musty smell is the stuff
that grew last night. there are some sprays available to kill the stuff and
make the car smell nice for a while. some say lysol (since it is a
disinfectant) works too! but i do not like the smell of lysol personally.
(you spray the stuff into the air intake area for the system with it running
and have high fan on to draw it through the system) but those are your
options. there is 1 thing to make positive that it is working though! the
drain for the evaporator. this is what the puddle of water comes from when
you sit parked with the a/c running on a warm day. some times dirt or an
industrious spider can block the drain tube. this causes water to stay in
the evaportaor and accelerates the growing of the stuff that smells bad when
you first fire up the a/c system. and in extreme cases if the drain tube is
blocked the passenger side floor gets wet from excess water coming out of
the evaporator box seams rather than draining out onto the road as designed.

chuck.
ASE certification? hey! i'm not telling! he-he-he! ..................c.
