So far, Miss Marple is being fairly good to me. The clutch that was
supposed to be
bad, seems to be fine. She's very playful though. You've already heard
about the kill switch. The car starts okay now, but the choke is not what I
expected. I can start it better with my head under the bonnet rather than
in the cockpit.
I think that I spent most of today's quality time chasing my tail. The
brake lights don't work, or do they? So far I have found out that they are
switched. They only come on when the ignition switch is on. I found out
that I have one bulb burnt out, which just happens to be the side that I
could see when pushing the brake pedal with a broom handle. I got my
daughter to check the lights for me and she told me that one was working.
She climbed through the car and then none worked. Having heard somewhere
that some people would have switches installed that turn off rear lights,
and thinking that even though I had said not to touch anything, I figured
that she may have somehow managed to do that and I started flicking
switches. That didn't help. I'm not going to go through all the different
events, but after quitting for the day, it dawns on me that with the brake
servo, the brake pressure switch doesn't get any pressure unless the engine
is running, or has just been running. I'll have to check that later.
So far, I'm looking at a bonnet hinge, accelerator return spring, brake
light bulb, exhaust bracket, I need to find a way to fix the mounting studs
on the boot latch, and sigh, I have the slightest amount of play in my
kingpin/bushes. My grease gun doesn't want to put grease in the front end.
A small amount was getting in, ( I took out some of the grease fittings to
see ) but a lot of grease was coming out around. The brakes are a bit
spongy at startup, and can be pumped up, no sign of leaks. Rather than
fight with flushing the fluid, I'll get the safety inspecting garage to help
me with that.
Do sway bar links need lube? Mine seems to be metal on metal for the ball
inside the ball. It doesn't quite seem right, somehow.
The appraiser was here ( for insurance purposes ). I did okay.
