When the EPA leprechauns stole the smog stuff off my car, they evidently
took the exhaust manifold to the local hardware store. There they found
a large (really big diameter) fine threaded bolt which was cut to the
correct length so as not stick into the exhaust flow, slapped a little
pipe dope on the threads, and tightened it down. Damnedest thing, but
while in there, they also replaced the down pipe with one from a non-cat
model.
