I was at APT today to pick up an exhuast/intake manifold gasket and was
talking to David Anton about Vizards 3rd edition book "Tuning the
A-Series Motor". David said Vizard just had a slight heart attack and
is recovering nicely. David also said that Vizard does not take care of
himself for long periods of time, then all of a sudden looks in the
mirror and decides "I'm too fat! I have to do something." Then goes
overboard trying to lose weight and get in shape. Not a good plan.
David also mentioned that Vizard was planning on writing another book on
the A series engine, but he didn't think Vizard would really get around
to doing it. Would be interesting.
If anyone was contemplating using David Anton's services for head
or engine work, you should know he is 3 months behind in scheduled
work. So, you can't be in a hurry. He also gave me a choice of
gaskets, the original asbestos filled (he had a few, but they are
banned) or a kevlar filled graphited outer surface gasket. David
explained that the old gasket would come off in pieces when the
manifolds were removed and the graphite surface on the new gasket allows
you to remove and re-install with the same gasket. He said he used one
in a race car for 5 years, continually removing the manifolds over and
over. The original type gasket was 4 bucks and the graphite version was
twice that. Which one do you think I bought? Remember, I'm a Scot, a
thrifty lad.
