walnut dash

I confess, my walnut dash is not a factory original, like you all don't
already know that. However it is very pretty and well done by the PO. He
took a plank of 1" thick walnut, laid the original metal dash over it,
traced the outline and gauge positions. Sawn to shape and rounded at the
edge to match the shape of the original, it was varnished to a rich finish
and has been that way since 1974 or so. You can see most of it in the
picture posted here:

All gauges and switches are in the original locations with only the addition
of the turbo boost gauge over the steering wheel displacing the turn
indicator dash light to a spot just above the switch. I get lots of
comments on the dash and I love the look of it. Even if it was a potential
concours restoration which it is not and will never be, I would keep the
wood dash and say 'screw the points'. Besides, if I'm ever caught in a
snowstorm I can burn it to stay warm and to cook up some tasty cat.
