More confused than ever

I thought I had it fiqured out when I finally got the transmission back
together, until I started to reassemble the engine. When refitting the
distributor, according to Haynes "note when both valves on No. 4 are
open and both valves on No. 1 are closed." I can't seem to find this
scenerio. I get even more confused when I look ahead to Kent's
instructions for setting the timing for the 266 Cam. Got any easier
instructions?
