Went down to the machine shop at lunch today. More bad news! at the bottom
of bore #2 there's a big piece of engine block missing! He suspects it threw
a rod in the past and the fix was sleaving the cylinders. Which wasn't a
very good fix since it seems the sleeve on #2 and #3 are not flush with the
deck of the block and causing head gasket problems. Supposedly he X-rayed
the crank, and the crack is much deeper than visual inspection indicated.
Also a rod was burnt and about to spin which overheated the crank a bit. A
rod nut was also loose and caused some serious scoring of the crank. So I
can kiss that crank good bye. Lifters are pitted, cam is actually in good
shape I think.
Thanks for all the offers for workable cranks, Ill let you know when I get
my other engine apart and see if it will do. At least I found the problems.
Hope your engines are doing better.
