The question is: How far are you towing it? The answer to the first
question is a resounding YES you can tow it safely with the front wheels on a
tow dolly and the rear wheels rolling behind. At least you HOPE the rear
wheels follow. 8^)
As far as the unbolting is concerned, if you aren't towing it very far, I
don't think I would unbolt anything. Just put it in neutral. If, however,
you are going a long distance, I am convinced it is easier on your
transmission to take it out of the loop by disconnecting the drive shaft from
it right in front of the differential. Just 4 bolts and you have it loose.
When I moved mine, I took a chisel and made a mark across the driveshaft and
the tranny flanges so I could line them back up the way they were before I
disconnected them. I then used a piece of wire and wired the driveshaft up
away from the differential flange.
Traveled just fine.
