I have four of those wide straps about 18 inches long with metal rings on each
end. I
put one thru each wheel, draw the rings together and clip on the ratchet straps.
Anchor it securely crossing the straps (i.e.. X in the back and X in the front)
to
keep the car from shifting in a hard turn or when you hit a pothole. I used to
secure to various parts under the car until I saw a bunch of guys tailoring
vintage
formula cars secured thru the wheels. Much easier, you don't have to get under
the
car.
Also INHO, I'd spend the extra dollars and get the HEAVY nylon tie downs, in a
covered trailer they won't get any weather exposure and should last for a good
number
of years, mine are on their third season on an open trailer and I'm not even
starting
to worry about them yet. The wide ones are so much overkill, you can tow
without
worry. That hundred bucks or so protects a much more valuable car not to mention
insuring your safety.
Also, I take the tension off the tiedowns anytime I'm leaving the car on the
trailer
but not moving, like at a motel for the evening. Maybe I'm wrong but I think it
helps
to extend the life of the straps.
