I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you mean he has a pre-1500 model body
and wants to drop in a 1500 engine/tranny, I don't think it will fit. The
1500 engine bay is larger than the earlier square body cars, to accommodate
the Triumph engine. Also, the 1275 is considered a better engine by most
people. It doesn't have the same HP as the 1500, but the 1275 is stronger in
the bottom end, and seems to be a *crisper* engine when tuned properly. (It
also didn't come out of a tractor.)
If you mean he wants to put a 1500 tranny on a 1275 engine, again, I don't
think it will mate, but I really don't know the answer to that one. The 1500
was developed by Triumph and the 1275 was never used in any Triumph cars.
The ribcase is a very good tranny. I don't know why he would want to do
that. The differential from a 1500 has a desirable ratio and can probably be
used in a car with a 1275 and a ribcase. (Sorry I don't know the ratio off
hand.)
