Recently I removed the original head from my 1275 motor.  I replaced the
head with a redone unit from an Austin America (don't know the casting
number).  I have no reason to believe the new head was shaved any
significant amount.  With the new head, the motor pings/detonates like
crazy.  To get the pinging to stop, I have to retard the timing so far that
performance is absolutely horrible.  My motor is the stock, higher
compression 1275 (8.8:1 I think) and I run premium gas.  This was never a
problem prior to the head swap.  Any thoughts (other than redoing the old
head)?  Thanks...
