Recently I removed the original head from my 1275 motor. I replaced the
head with a redone unit from an Austin America (don't know the casting
number). I have no reason to believe the new head was shaved any
significant amount. With the new head, the motor pings/detonates like
crazy. To get the pinging to stop, I have to retard the timing so far that
performance is absolutely horrible. My motor is the stock, higher
compression 1275 (8.8:1 I think) and I run premium gas. This was never a
problem prior to the head swap. Any thoughts (other than redoing the old
head)? Thanks...
