My goal for the day was to get the engine out. Close, but no cigar. I have
2 bolts to take out from the tunnel and 2 nuts to take off the engine
mounts. I read in Haynes that it takes about 4 hours and I had victory in
sight. For some strange reason, my wife didn't sleep in today. I also have
the engine hoist to dig out and assemble and make a cradle for the
engine/gearbox on a wheeled pallet.

I got a bit distracted when I saw a crack in the tar on the transmission
hump and 'had' to put a screwdriver in it to pull the junk away. The
screwdriver just kept going, as if there was nothing under the tar. It
wasn't only the screwdriver that had a sinking feeling.

I got called in to supper and the unknown was eating at me, so eventually I
made it back out and took the tar off. Someone seems to have taken a can
opener to the tunnel, ... probably to change the front u-joint. They didn't
see fit to weld it after, they just bent the metal back ( sort of ) and
smoothed over it with a tar-like substance.

What's this in Haynes about pulling the drive shaft out from the back and
marking the drive shaft so that it mounts relative to the way it was
before??? I thought that you just pulled the gearbox forward? I will also
be removing the drive shaft, ... but, why mark it? If it is balanced, isn't
it balanced? Is there a concern at the gearbox connection or just at the
diff?

Hey Brad!
We planted some habaneros today! We are late in the season and shouldn't
expect to see any fruit this year. But next year ...
